I missed a jumper on the bridge by just seconds today. Bridge patrol pulled up and tossed some tubular device over the bridge that started smoking as soon as it hit the water. Perhaps it was designed to alert the Coast Guard where to look for the body? It was the second jumper in two weeks. The Golden Gate Bridge is a frequent site for suicides. After a fall of approximately four seconds, jumpers hit the water at 75 miles per hour, which is nearly always fatal given you are 220 feet above the water's surface!
Numerous efforts and programs have been proposed to make the bridge a less attractive place to take one's own life. As terrible as this is to say, I would actually like to see someone free fall from the bridge. Hopefully one of these days I'll be there at the right time.

Pretty dark desire you have there...
Are you thinking of being there at the "right time" to stop them or to watch them jump??? I am guess if you want to see them free fall it is to see them fall. I suggest skydiving then you can experience it.
What can I say, I am sick and demented :-)
It would probably freak me out and give me nightmares for months on end.
Roger,
You don't skydive, do you? Is that what you do with your free time when you're off the bike?
That's messed up.
I'm not saying that I would live to see someone die, just free fall. Maybe with a bungee cord attached.
I actually think SF could make a lot of money if they offered bungee jumping off the GGB for some exorbitant fee. I am sure a lot of people would pay, and it would be a great revenue generator. I think people bungee jump off some bridge in New Zealand.
They could take the revenue from the bungee jumps and remove the bridge tolls, right?
and yeah, you're demented.
when i was a kid, i saw my spit free falling from some random bridges.
you are more than welcome to watch my spit free fall...it's biodegradable and all.
