I stumbled upon a new store, Fog City News, that "imports hundreds of premium chocolate bars from around the world" and has "one of the largest chocolate collections in the US!" Their claim is a bit of an exaggeration as their chocolate section is not HUGE, but they do have a nice selection. The place is on Market Street and 1st. If you are a chocoholic like me and in the neighborhood, be sure to stop in and check it out.Hands down my favorite chocolate spot in the city is Bittersweet. Bittersweet is a chocolate café located on Fillmore street. They also have a location in Oakland. Their chocolate selection is hard to beat and includes: Bonnat, Cluizel, Pralus, Coppeneur, Domori, Amedei, Castelain, Scharffen Berger, Cote d'Or, Caffe Tasse, Plantations, Amano, Valrhona, E. Guittard, Vosges, Cuba Venchi, El Rey, Dagoba and Divine to name a few.
Lately I have been enjoying Vosges Naga Bar with sweet Indian curry powder and seeking out brands that have pepper or chilies. The current rage seems to be chocolate with sea salt. I had my eye on a bar at lunch time yesterday.
By far and the way the best chocolate in the US is Lake Champlain Chocolates. Chocolate makes a great gift and places such as Lake Champlain have nice gift boxes and baskets.
What are some of your favorite chocolate brands?
