It was only a matter of time

Tour's first doping positive reported!

Spaniard Manuel Beltrán has reportedly become the 2008 Tour de France's first doping positive. The Liquigas rider's A sample is said to have tested positive for the banned blood booster erythropoeitin following the first stage which ended in Plumelec last Saturday.

Beltran was at Lance Armstrong's side during three of his successful Tour wins in 2003, 2004 and 2005. Both Beltran and Armstrong were named by L’Equipe as being among several riders whose samples from the 1999 Tour showed signs of EPO in a now-infamous retesting of six-year-old samples.

Just watch the French rush to connect the dots on this one. They won't give up until they bring down Armstrong.

Surely Beltran will be thrown out of the race. Will the entire Liquigas team be asked to leave the Tour? It will be interesting to see how the Amaury Sport Organization (ASO) responds.
