Time = Life

It's a race against the clock in Burma as the government almost doubled the official death to 78,000.

The United Nations estimates that 1.6 million to 2.5 million survivors are in urgent need of food, water, shelter and medicine. If emergency supplies do not reach survivors soon, many more could die through starvation and epidemic.Major relief agencies remain frustrated by the government's refusal to let them put in place a large-scale relief operation or to send in their own disaster recovery experts. The country's military junta insists that it can handle relief operations on its own. The military has set up checkpoints on the two main roads to the delta to keep foreigners out of the disaster zone.

Wealthy Burmese who want to donate rice or other assistance have been told that everything must be channeled through the military.

Many victims are getting spoiled food from the government instead of the high-quality supplies being sent by relief agencies and charities. The junta is either keeping the food for themselves or selling it on the black market.

How many people need to die before the Burmese government stops driving it's own agenda and opens up the doors to relief agencies?
