Do not rule out Astana. This team is on a mission! With about 72 kilometers to go in stage 11, Astana decided to take advantage of the strong side winds in the open farm roads and laid down the hammer. The surprise attack split the peloton in two leaving poor Moreau behind. Astana's attack moved Klöden up into 6th on general classification (GC). The Moreau group finished at 3'19 and the French champion dropped from 6th to 12th overall.Jens Voigt did not think highly of Astana's tactics as evidenced by his comments: "Christophe had crashed, it is not fair to make him lose the Tour de France because of that." Moreau might be able to make back up that time in the two time trials, but we'll have to wait and see. It was not a good day for French fans.
