Change is in the air

Pro level - Slipstream has signed Christian Vande Velde, Dave Zabriskie and David Millar to the team for 2008. In addition, the team has signed a yet-to-be-announced former winner of Paris-Roubaix. Those are some pretty heavy hitters. TDF, here they come!

Not so pro level - Safeway has decided to go out on top and pull the plug after this season. Why oh why? Safeway has dominated the Men's Masters races for the last three years and taken local racing to a higher level. There will be no more AMD Discovery - Safeway battles next year. How sad. Where will they all go? Will a new team emerge? I don't like change. Robert, please tell us you are kidding. It's not too late to change your mind.

Rumor has it EMC2 has decided not to renew their sponsorship after the 2007 season. That's another handful of riders that will be looking for a new home next year.

Even our team will look and feel different next year as Hill & Co's sponsorship is coming to an end. Who knows what that means for the team. Will Poggio step-up to the plate as title sponsor? Will the team revert back to being just CRC? Will the board actively pursue a new sponsor?

I hate change.

I heard from Jason Donald at the post Tour of CA party (while you were shmoozing Rabobank) that Chipotle would be getting Dave Z and a few others. I was sort of surprised. He told me not to tell anyone which is pretty funny since we had just met!
