That would be me for forgetting to take my bike off the roof of the car Sunday night before driving into the garage when I arrived home at 1:00 am. Stupid, stupid, stupid!!
The good news is that the seat took the brunt of the impact and so the damage SEEMS to be minimal! I am going to take the bike to the shop today and have someone check it out to be safe.
Boy oh boy, I think I got off lucky on this one. There is nothing worse than the sickening sound of wood-on-metal. I need to buy a huge red flashing alert sign that stops me from making that mistake again as I may not be as lucky the next time around.
I am not sure what's going on these days but I seem to be damaging everything -- my body, my car and now my bike. I am an accident waiting to happen. The other day my boss told me I need to be encased inside a plastic bubble. It's not a bad idea.

I did that once. I tore the whole rack completely off the top of the car. I was prolly driving a bit too fast...
Luckily, my custom Land Shark was relatively undamaged, while the team Peugeot was less fortunate.
Bikes were steel in those days and easy to fix....
Been there, done that. I did it 6 days before my big triathlon of the season. Was a mad rush to get a bike together before the race: broken fork and seat post. The roof of the car and bike rack were never the same.
Don't feel bad - I done that three times - twice in one garage (the bike hit the warning sign and I ignored the "warning"). First time - wrecked the tray of my cantilevered Yakima roof rack, handlebars, brakes and seat on my mtn bike. Second time - just the seat.
I have a friend who did that once...got a new bike and on it's first trip on the car...did it again!
papcid.....are you sure it was just once?
i think after 2 or 3 times we got a car big enough to put the bikes inside....
