Getting tough on doping at Worlds

UCI says no Worlds for Valverde: The UCI announced it was not only prohibiting Valverde from starting the World Road Championships event, but that it was also starting disciplinary proceedings against the rider. Ivan Basso and Alejandro Valverde are both "allegedly" linked to blood bags through code names in the ongoing Operación Puerto investigation, but only Valverde's showed traces of EPO. Will they ever wrap up the Puerto investigation?? It's such a shame they are going after all the pretty boys.

The German federation wants to exclude Zabel from Worlds: The vice president for communication and marketing of the German national federation has quit in protest over the decision to nominate Erik Zabel to the preliminary team for the World Championships. The decision is based on the fact that Zabel recently admitted to EPO usage in 1996. Sounds like a German hissey fit to me. And I thought only women made rash decisions.
